Mindfulness

Mindfulness

What does this word mean to you?  Probably not a great deal, yet!

"Mindfulness is being aware of what the present moment offers you."

It seems to be "in thing" at the moment, you can find apps, playlists, diaries, journals, colouring books, videos all to help you be more mindful.

But why?
Majority of the time you are on autopilot just going through your daily routine without giving anything you are doing, seeing, feeling or thinking a moment of your time.
Practising mindfulness allows you to become in touch with your experiences, clear your head to make room for new ideas, make a real social connection to loved ones, become available to the world and be a creature of choice! So why not give it a go.

Some of the many ways you can put mindfulness into play:

JOURNAL
-Each day write down something you are grateful for
-Something you would like to do differently or improve on tomorrow
- What you are stressed about, ask yourself if it is in your control
JUST EAT
Literally, just eat. This is my absolute favourite! It is so easy to flick on the TV or jump on social media while you are eating, but while you are doing this your body is no longer digesting as efficiently as it could be.
Try sitting at the table or in the sun, anywhere relaxing and really think about your food. This also helps you feel more satisfied and fuller for longer because you can register what you have eaten.
BE IN THE MOMENT
-Practice paying attention to the present moment on purpose
-Who is around you, how nice the sun feels, what it feels like to be wearing shoes. Anything! Just be there.
3x3 RULE
The next time you are feeling anxious pick 3 objects, any object. Tell yourself what the object is and take a deep breath and repeat 3 times.
Example,
water bottle "take a deep breath"
water bottle "take a deep breath"
water bottle "take a deep breath"
This will help you focus on your surrounds and breathing making you feel more relaxed in the room.

There is so much more I could talk about! I hope you go out and find what strategy best suits you.
